Reverend Johnny M. Sellers, M.Div., MSHS, BS
Senior Pastor, Evergreen Baptist Church – Anderson, SC
Reverend Johnny M. Sellers serves as the Senior Pastor and Chief Spiritual Advocate of Evergreen Baptist Church in Anderson, SC, where since January 2022 he has led with vision, energy, and a deep passion for God’s people. A native of Bennettsville, SC, and the son of the late Johnny Franklin and Della Mae Sellers, Pastor Sellers is a connector, collaborator, and transformational leader whose ministry embodies service, education, leadership, and family.
Licensed at Rocky Creek Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Adrian J. McIlwain and ordained through the Greater Gaston Baptist Association under Rev. Dr. Chip Hall, Pastor Sellers has faithfully served as Associate Pastor, Youth Minister, and Chaplain before being called to Evergreen. In 2020, he founded JMS Ministries, where he continues to inspire as a Chief Engager and Impactor. His ministerial journey is enriched by clinical pastoral training, hospital chaplaincy, and years of mentoring the next generation of Christian leaders.
Pastor Sellers is a proud graduate of South Carolina State University (B.S., Family & Consumer Sciences), Capella University (M.S., Human Services Administration & Policy), and Hood Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity, concentrations in Preaching, Worship, and Pastoral Care). He is currently pursuing the Doctor of Ministry in Leadership at Hood. His academic and professional training also includes certifications in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (University of South Florida), Nonprofit Management (Winthrop University), and Religious Fundraising (Lilly Family School of Philanthropy).
A decorated U.S. Army combat veteran, Pastor Sellers faithfully served in Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His commitment to service extends beyond the military into civic, nonprofit, and public leadership. He serves on numerous boards, including New Horizons Family Health Services, and holds leadership roles in the Anderson County Ministerial Organization, Rocky River Baptist Association, and the Anderson County NAACP. He is also a proud Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the SC State University Alumni Association, and a member of several civic organizations including Rotary International, Lions Club, and 100 Black Men of the Upstate.
His leadership and service have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Col. Charles Young Leadership Award (Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.), the Reverend Dr. William M. White Sr. Pastoral Theology Honor (Hood Seminary), the Calder D. Ehrmann Diversity Leaders Award (Furman University’s Riley Institute), and the Paul Harris Fellow Award (Rotary International).
At the heart of Pastor Sellers’ ministry is his family. He is married to the former Kendra Speed, and together they are blessed with three daughters—Jayla, Kenade, and Kadence—one grandson, Jace (“QPa’s boy”), and their beloved family dog, Bean.
Faithful to the call of God, Pastor Sellers is guided by his favorite scripture: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7). He lives out the African proverb, “When spiders unite, they can tie up a lion,” by empowering communities, strengthening families, and advancing the kingdom of God through preaching, teaching, service, and leadership.
